Ellinikon Sports Park in Athens Opens to Public

The first phase of the Ellinikon Sports Park in Athens opened on 20 July as part of the larger Ellinikon urban redevelopment, the biggest in Europe. The 287,000 sqm complex offers a modern track with 1,070 spectator seats, two artificial‑turf football fields, hybrid‑turf football fields, basketball and tennis courts, a future Olympic‑size swimming pool (planned for 2026), and extensive green areas for free exercise. The park’s opening was marked by a three‑night “Mundial” football event that attracted more than 3,000 visitors and featured former members of Greece’s 2004 Euro‑champion squad.

The venue is being handed over to the community in phases, aiming to provide a new hub for sport, wellness and public life while incorporating sustainable design to lower its carbon footprint.
