Elly Schlein pledges wider centre‑left alliance and vows to block premier‑style electoral law

PD leader Elly Schlein warned that parts of the political establishment are trying to keep her out of Palazzo Chigi, citing her gender, sexual orientation and age. She said she will not retreat and will build a broader centre‑left coalition to confront the right‑wing government.

Schlein announced that the party will set up a parliamentary and external “wall” with other opposition groups to stop the new electoral law, which she described as “the appetizer to a premiership” and potentially unconstitutional. She called for using every procedural tool to prevent its passage.

During the PD’s national direction, Schlein underscored the party’s European‑ist identity and urged a unified stance on issues such as the Ukraine conflict and migration, while rejecting any alliance that would dilute reformist policies.
