Elly Schlein says no veto on Renzi as Italy's centre‑left alliance widens

Centre‑left leader Elly Schlein told television viewers that she has never placed a veto on any partner, including Matteo Renzi, and that the coalition’s program will be drafted together from September. Schlein said the progressive alliance is already broader than a recent photo showing her with Prime Minister‑designate Giuseppe Conte, Avs leaders Angelo Bonelli and Nicola Fratoianni, and that the coalition will continue to work across regions and municipalities.

She noted that upcoming joint events are scheduled for 8 July in a northern city and 15 July in a southern city, and that she, Conte and Fratoianni will meet again on 22 July for the 125th anniversary of the FIOM metal‑workers union in Bologna. Schlein emphasised that discussions will continue without “veti” and that the programme will be written collectively by all parties in the alliance.
