Elon Musk awarded Ukraine's Order of Freedom for Starlink role FAST-MOVING

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has awarded Elon Musk, the CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, the Order of Freedom, one of Ukraine’s highest state honors. The award, issued via presidential decree, recognizes Musk’s outstanding personal merits in protecting human life and freedom, as well as his role in strengthening relations between Ukraine and the United States.

Since the start of the Russian invasion in 2022, Musk’s Starlink satellite internet network has been a critical lifeline for the Ukrainian military and civilians, facilitating communications and the coordination of military operations, including drone strikes. In early 2026, SpaceX reportedly worked with Kyiv to block unauthorized Starlink terminals being used by Russian forces, which helped weaken Russian operational capabilities.

Despite the award, tensions remain regarding the scope of Starlink’s use. Kyiv is actively lobbying Musk to allow the satellite network to operate over Russian territory to improve the precision of drone and missile strikes against Russian military infrastructure. Musk has so far declined these requests, stating that such an expansion could lead to an escalation of the conflict.
