Elsewedy announces electric vehicle manufacturing project in Algeria
During the NAPEC 2026 energy salon in Oran, the Egyptian group Elsewedy announced plans to establish an automotive manufacturing plant in Algeria. CEO Mostafa Awad revealed that a feasibility study for producing electric and hybrid vehicles has been submitted to the Prime Minister's office for strategic review.
The project aims to produce models under the ‘Elsewedy EZZ’ brand, featuring both 100% electric and hybrid versions. While the engines will be imported, the company intends to achieve a local integration rate of 50% to 60% using German and Chinese engineering components. This initiative is part of a broader $1.3 billion investment program by Elsewedy in Algeria, which also includes potential steel production facilities.
Separately, Schneider Electric utilized the NAPEC event to showcase its locally produced energy management and industrial automation solutions. The company has maintained a manufacturing presence in Algeria for 25 years, operating two industrial platforms in Sidi Rached and Sidi Bel Abbès, and emphasizes its role in local technology transfer and professional training.
