Algeria energy and industrial development

Overview

Algeria is advancing its industrial and energy sectors through significant investments in manufacturing and renewable infrastructure. The Egyptian group Elsewedy has proposed a project to establish an automotive manufacturing plant in Algeria to produce ‘Elsewedy EZZ’ brand electric and hybrid vehicles. This initiative, which aims for a local integration rate of 50% to 60%, is part of a larger $1.3 billion investment program in the country.

In the renewable energy sector, Algeria has commissioned a 300 MWp solar power plant in El Foula, El Oued province, which is the country’s largest photovoltaic installation this year. This project supports a national roadmap to reach 15,000 MW of solar capacity by 2035. Additionally, the state utility Sonelgaz has initiated tenders for two new 100 MW wind farms in Djelfa and Laghouat to further diversify the national energy mix.
