eMAG and ING Bank launch free RoPay instant payment option in Romania

Romania's leading e‑commerce platform eMAG has integrated the RoPay digital payment system provided by ING Bank. The service allows customers to complete online purchases without entering card details, using a phone‑number‑linked payment method that is free, instant and secured by the bank’s infrastructure.

According to ING’s Wholesale Banking director Raluca Țintoiu, more than 6.77 million Romanian users already have access to RoPay, with over 8.5 million phone numbers registered. The rollout is available through the eMAG mobile app and website, supporting QR‑code and alias‑based payments, and is intended to accelerate the adoption of mobile‑based digital payments across the country.
