Emanuela Orlandi case: Forensic tests on flute and summons of former Vatican gendarme

Investigations into the 1983 disappearances of Emanuela Orlandi and Mirella Gregori have entered a new phase involving forensic analysis and high-profile testimonies. Carabinieri RIS investigators in Rome are currently conducting genetic testing on a flute found in a package. The instrument was reportedly sent by filmmaker Marco Fassoni Accetti, who previously claimed it belonged to Orlandi. However, the victim's former music teacher, Loriano Berti, has disputed this, noting that Orlandi practiced on a high-quality Yamaha flute, whereas the recovered item is a simpler Rampone model.

Simultaneously, the bicameral commission of inquiry has summoned Raoul Bonarelli, a former Vatican State Police official, for a hearing. Bonarelli is considered a potential link between the Orlandi and Gregori cases. While he was previously investigated for perjury in 1993 regarding the Orlandi disappearance, allegations suggest he may have faced pressure from the Vatican to withhold information at that time. His testimony is expected to address his presence near the victims and his knowledge of the events surrounding their disappearances.
