Emater-MG launches technical assistance for Rio Doce producers

Emater-MG has initiated a new phase of recovery for rural properties affected by the Fundão dam collapse in Mariana. The agency has begun a detailed diagnostic of approximately 500 properties that joined the Rio Doce Reparation Agreement across 36 municipalities.

Technicians are utilizing Sustainability Indicators in Agroecosystems (ISA) to conduct a comprehensive assessment of each property. This process includes field visits, interviews with producers, and consultations with the Rural Environmental Registry to identify environmental, productive, and socioeconomic challenges. The results will guide the creation of individual Executive Technical Projects (PTEs), which may include soil and water conservation, the recovery of degraded areas, and production improvements.

Local producers have reported significant hardships following the disaster, including soil damage and difficulties selling products like milk due to contamination fears regarding livestock drinking from the river.
