At the Farnborough International Airshow 2026 a series of high‑profile defence and aerospace collaborations were announced. Danish firm Terma unveiled a Multi‑Mission Pod that repurposes the F‑35’s certified gun pod into a modular payload system, promising faster capability upgrades and lower integration costs.

UK ministers used the event to outline a £298 billion defence investment plan, earmarking £31 billion for air and space and setting a new £400 million annual innovation budget. The plan underpins the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP), a joint UK‑Japan‑Italy effort to develop a next‑generation fighter.

MBDA UK, MBDA Italy, Mitsubishi Electric and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries signed a collaboration agreement to support weapons integration for GCAP, forming the “Sovereign Effects Partners”. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries also announced a separate contract with UK, Italy and Japan to develop a common effector interface for the programme.

BAE Systems secured a £708 million Ministry of Defence contract to extend development of sixth‑generation combat air technologies for the UK’s Future Combat Air System, involving more than 4,500 workers and a supply chain of around 600 UK firms.

Airbus Defence and Space and UAE‑based AMMROC signed an MoU to explore regional aircraft sustainment, including Airbus‑qualified maintenance for the C295 and A330 MRTT platforms.

Brazilian aerospace company Embraer and the UK Department for Business and Trade agreed on a memorandum of understanding to deepen cooperation on aerospace innovation, research and supply‑chain integration, complementing a wider £600 million UK aerospace package.

Analysts noted that Canada’s entry into GCAP and Japan’s renewed optimism further strengthen the programme’s international backing, helping to close potential capability gaps in the region.
