Alajuelense appoints Bryan Ruiz as interim coach after Rescalvo departure

Liga Deportiva Alajuelense has dismissed Spanish coach Ismael Rescalvo following a period of irregular results, including four consecutive matches without a victory in the national tournament. The club also announced the departure of assistant coach Juan Rescalvo and physical trainer Robert Tejero.

Costa Rican football legend Bryan Ruiz has been appointed as the interim manager. Ruiz, who previously served as an assistant to Alexandre Guimarães and has coached the club's U-21 team, will lead the squad alongside Javier Delgado and Wilmer López. Their immediate priority is the upcoming Concacaf Central American Cup quarter-final match against Honduras' Marathón.

In a separate move to strengthen the defense, the club confirmed the return of defender Giancarlo González, who has signed a contract through June 2027. His signing comes amid recent defensive struggles and injuries within the squad.
