Alajuelense president seeks to retain coach Óscar Ramírez

Overview

Following a period of interim management, Óscar “Macho” Ramírez officially resumed his role as head coach of Liga Deportiva Alajuelense. Upon returning to the High Performance Center (CAR), Ramírez emphasized a winning mentality and suggested that the squad’s familiarity with his methodology, supported by the recent interim work of Bryan Ruiz, would allow for a smooth transition.

During this period, the club saw improvements in player availability, with defenders Alexis Gamboa and Aarón Salazar becoming available for selection, while Isaac Badilla neared a return from a foot injury.

However, the stability of Ramírez’s tenure has since come into question. Ahead of a match against Club Sport Herediano, the 61-year-old manager hinted that his time with the club may be nearing its end. While his current contract includes an option to extend for six months, Ramírez expressed nostalgia regarding his history with the institution and noted he is approaching a stage where he must consider other paths. Despite these reflections, he stated his immediate objectives remain winning the national championship and repeating success in the Copa Centroamericana.

In response to these hints, Alajuelense president Joseph Joseph expressed the club’s desire to retain Ramírez. Although the coach’s current contract is set to expire in December, Joseph stated the institution intends to do everything possible to ensure he continues in his role. The president highlighted Ramírez’s ability to motivate the squad and his capacity to convey a message of effort and dedication, which has generated significant optimism within the club.
