Emergency helicopters conduct dual mountain rescues in Castilla y León
Emergency services in Castilla y León conducted two separate helicopter rescue operations for injured hikers on the same day.
In the first incident, a hiker was evacuated from the Cueva de los Nombres route in La Pola de Gordón after injuring her knee. The rescue involved a Junta de Castilla y León helicopter, which deployed rescuers via crane to reach the victim in a difficult-to-access area. After receiving initial medical assistance, she was transported to La Robla for transfer to a basic life support ambulance.
In a second operation, a 55-year-old woman was rescued from the Ruta de los Calderones in Carrocera after a fall that left her unconscious for several minutes. The rescue helicopter, which was already in flight returning from the previous mission in La Pola de Gordón, was redirected to the new location. Rescuers used a double crane and evacuation triangle to lift the victim to the helicopter. She was subsequently transferred to medical personnel at the La Magdalena health center.
