Mountain rescue operations in Castilla y León

Overview

Emergency services in Castilla y León, Spain, have conducted several mountain rescue operations involving hikers in various regions.

In mid-August, operations included the evacuation of a 60-year-old woman with an ankle injury from Pico Urbión in Soria and the rescue of four hikers—one German and three Americans—near the Collado Jermoso Refuge in León. These missions utilized helicopters and the GREIM mountain intervention group.

Subsequent operations on the same day involved a hiker with a knee injury in La Pola de Gordón, who was reached via helicopter crane, and a 55-year-old woman who was rescued from the Ruta de los Calderones in Carrocera after falling and losing consciousness. In the latter case, a helicopter already in flight was redirected to perform the rescue using a double crane and evacuation triangle.
