Emergency response training conducted in Maringá and Penela

Disaster response teams in Maringá, Brazil, and Penela, Portugal, have undergone specialized training to improve coordination during large-scale emergencies.

In Maringá, over 100 professionals participated in a simulation coordinated by the Fire Department. The exercise included scenarios such as building collapses, victim search and rescue using thermal drones and trained dogs, and managing displaced persons. The training aims to prepare municipal agencies, including Civil Defense and infrastructure departments, for extreme weather events potentially linked to El Niño.

In Penela, the 35th edition of the Medical Response to Major Incidents (MRMI) course was held at the Volunteer Firefighters' Emergency Training Center. The multidisciplinary program hosted 141 professionals, including hospital directors, doctors, nurses, and civil protection commanders. The initiative, a partnership between the Madeira Clinical Simulation Center, the Penela Volunteer Firefighters, and the Coimbra Local Health Unit, focuses on improving communication and institutional resilience during multi-victim catastrophes.
