Emergency services conduct disaster response exercises in Germany and Switzerland

Emergency services in Germany and Switzerland conducted training exercises to prepare for large-scale disasters.

In Altötting, Germany, the disaster control leadership group organized a large-scale staff exercise simulating a major fire and a serious traffic accident involving a bus and a truck. The drill involved a coordinated effort between the fire department, the Bavarian Red Cross, the Technical Relief Agency (THW), and the Water Rescue service to test administrative and operational structures.

In Gommiswald, Switzerland, the local fire department held a public training session at a former fire station. During the exercise, which involved intentionally burning pallets, ceiling insulation elements fell into the fire, causing it to grow larger than anticipated. The fire was quickly brought under control by the participating firefighters, and no danger to the public was reported. The St. Gallen Cantonal Police and neighboring fire departments were present as a precaution.
