Emergency response training in Europe
Overview
Emergency services in Germany and Switzerland have been conducting various disaster response and large-scale training exercises.
In Germany, the ‘Schneller Retter 2026’ exercise was held at the Putlos training area in Oldenburg, involving military and civil emergency services. This simulation focused on managing large-scale damage, such as an aircraft crash, and included technical rescue tasks. Additionally, in Altötting, a staff exercise simulated a major fire and a serious traffic accident involving a bus and a truck to test administrative and operational coordination between the fire department, the Bavarian Red Cross, the Technical Relief Agency (THW), and the Water Rescue service.
In Switzerland, a public training session was held in Gommiswald. During the exercise, which involved burning pallets, a fire grew larger than anticipated after ceiling insulation elements fell into the flames. Firefighters quickly brought the situation under control, and no public danger was reported.
