Emergency services in Italy face funding and operational challenges
In Italy, humanitarian and emergency services are facing distinct challenges. The organization Emergency, which has treated 14 million victims of war and poverty across 21 countries since 1994, is organizing various local events in the Macerata province to promote a culture of peace and raise funds. Upcoming initiatives include the ‘Pedalata per la pace’ on September 27, a cycling event from Porto Recanati to Numana.
Separately, emergency medical services in the Salerno province are facing a potential collapse. Volunteer associations, employees, and volunteers have reported that delayed payments from the Campania Region and ASL Salerno are threatening the 118 emergency transport service. Organizations claim that reimbursements for salaries, fuel, and ambulance maintenance are taking over 90 days instead of the expected 20, with some debts extending into 2025. They warn that without immediate funding, the ability to provide essential life-saving services is at risk.
