Italian emergency and humanitarian service challenges

Overview

Emergency and humanitarian services in Italy are facing operational and financial difficulties. In the Salerno province, medical transport services are under threat due to significant payment delays from the Campania Region and ASL Salerno.

Local volunteer associations and employees report that reimbursements for fuel, ambulance maintenance, and salaries are taking more than 90 days, with some debts extending into 2025. These organizations warn that the lack of immediate funding puts the ability to provide essential life-saving services at risk.

Concurrently, the humanitarian organization Emergency is conducting local initiatives in the Macerata province, such as the ‘Pedalata per la pace’ cycling event, to raise funds and promote peace.
