Emergency services respond to fires in Slovakia and Czech Republic

Emergency services in Slovakia and the Czech Republic responded to separate significant fire incidents. In Slovakia, firefighters, local citizens, and forestry workers worked to extinguish a fire involving grassland and stubble in the Ľutov municipality. The fire occurred in difficult terrain and posed a direct threat to an adjacent forest. In another Slovak incident, a fire near a small hydroelectric plant in Chynoria was reportedly caused by an electrical fault at a transformer station.

In the Czech Republic, a major fire broke out at a Lidl store in the Central Bohemian region shortly after midnight. The incident prompted a third-degree fire alarm and the evacuation of 53 people from a nearby dormitory, who were provided temporary shelter in evacuation buses. Firefighters utilized drones with thermal imaging to locate hidden hotspots and deployed multiple water jets and high-reach equipment to bring the flames under control. Following the localization of the fire, evacuees were able to return to their accommodations.
