By mid-September 2026, extreme drought and high temperatures continued to drive significant fire incidents across the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

In the Czech Republic, previous incidents included a fire near Podyjí National Park caused by a discarded cigarette. More recently, a major fire broke out at a Lidl store in the Central Bohemian region shortly after midnight. The incident triggered a third-degree fire alarm and necessitated the evacuation of 53 people from a nearby dormitory. Firefighters used drones with thermal imaging to locate hotspots and utilized high-reach equipment to control the flames; evacuees were eventually able to return to their accommodations.

In Slovakia, emergency services have managed various large-scale incidents, including forest fires in Vyšný Medzev and Slovak Paradise National Park. Recent activity includes a fire involving grassland and stubble in the Ľutov municipality, where firefighters and forestry workers worked in difficult terrain to prevent the blaze from reaching an adjacent forest. Additionally, a fire near a small hydroelectric plant in Chynoria was reportedly caused by an electrical fault at a transformer station.

Other notable Slovak incidents involved an agricultural fire in Naháč, a large landfill fire in Trnava that prompted health warnings for residents, and a stubble fire in Chudá Lehota.
