Emergency services respond to mountain rescues and forest fire

Emergency services in Germany and Austria responded to several incidents involving mountain rescues and a forest fire during late August.

In Oberstdorf, Germany, the Bergwacht Oberstdorf conducted eleven rescue operations between August 24 and August 30. These missions included multiple helicopter evacuations via Christoph 17 and Gallus 1 for medical emergencies, ankle injuries, and circulatory issues. Other incidents involved hikers suffering from exhaustion or falls, with some assistance provided by Fellhornbahn staff.

In Austria, fire departments responded to a forest fire near Dürnstein on the morning of August 31. Following reports of smoke rising from the forest above the Gartenhotel Pfeffel, fire brigades from Dürnstein, Weißenkirchen, Stixendorf, and Krems were deployed. The fire, which covered approximately 150 square meters, was contained by crews using tank extinguishing vehicles and hose lines to prevent further spread.
