Emergência 53 medical series debuts on Globoplay

The medical drama series ‘Emergência 53’ is debuting on Globoplay, focusing on the intense work performed by emergency responders in ambulances rather than within hospital corridors. Created by Claudio Torres, Marcio Maranhão, and Andrucha Waddington, the series is inspired by the Brazilian SAMU service.

To ensure authenticity, the cast underwent rigorous preparation. Actors Jaffar Bambirra and Ana Hikari obtained specific licenses to drive emergency vehicles and practiced driving techniques. Other cast members received training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and the use of defibrillators. One of the creators, Marcio Maranhão, is a thoracic surgeon and former SAMU physician.

The series follows various characters, including a brilliant general surgeon played by Emílio Dantas, who struggles with bipolar disorder while attempting to rebuild his career. Dantas prepared for the role by shadowing mobile emergency professionals to understand the high-pressure environment of street-side medical interventions.
