Emil und die Detektive receives new film adaptation

A new film adaptation of Erich Kästner’s classic children's novel, ‘Emil und die Detektive’, directed by David Dietl, has been released in cinemas. The story follows twelve-year-old Emil Tischbein, who travels from his hometown to Berlin to visit his grandmother.

During the train journey, a man named Grundeis steals the cash Emil’s mother provided for his grandmother. The plot follows Emil as he teams up with a group of local Berlin children to track down the thief through the city.

Originally published in 1929, the novel is considered a landmark in German children's literature for its social realism and its focus on a child-led narrative without adult intervention. The book has seen multiple film adaptations over the decades, including versions in 1931, 1954, 2001, and now the latest update by Dietl.
