Emilia-Romagna allocates 330,000 euros to reopen historic theaters and cinemas

The Emilia-Romagna Region has announced a 330,000 euro fund dedicated to reopening closed historic theaters and cinemas. The initiative aims to restore cultural hubs to communities, with a specific focus on historic centers, mountainous areas, and disadvantaged territories.

The funding will be distributed between 2026 and 2028. Of the total amount, 180,000 euros are allocated to cinemas (60,000 euros annually) and 150,000 euros to historic theaters (50,000 euros annually).

To qualify, historic theaters must be located in buildings constructed before the 1940s, and cinemas must be indoor spaces equipped with one or more screens. Both types of venues must have a maximum capacity of 3,000 people. The call for applications is open until October 23, 2026. Regional Culture Councilor Gessica Allegni stated that these spaces are essential for cultural promotion, social cohesion, and local economic development.
