Emilia-Romagna joins European Association of Via Francigena Routes

The Emilia-Romagna region has officially joined the European Association of Via Francigena Routes (AEVF). This move follows a unanimous regional legislative approval and a subsequent green light from the regional government.

As an ordinary member, the region will pay an annual fee of 6,000 euros for the 2026-2028 triennium. This membership allows Emilia-Romagna to collaborate directly with European institutions, universities, and international organizations to promote the sustainable development of the historic route, which is currently a candidate for UNESCO World Heritage status.

The AEVF, headquartered in Fidenza, is recognized by the Council of Europe. It coordinates efforts to protect the path, promote local products and landscapes, and improve infrastructure and services for pilgrims and walkers.
