Emilia‑Romagna demands full damage assessment after July 15 severe storm

On July 15, heavy rain, hail and wind gusts exceeding 100 km/h swept across the Emilia‑Romagna region, causing floods, fallen trees, roof and building damage, and interruptions to road and rail services. The province of Modena suffered extensive infrastructure and agricultural losses, while Ferrara experienced particularly intense precipitation and widespread vehicular disruptions.

Regional councilor Maria Costi (PD) called for an updated regional report on the event’s impacts, emergency assistance, and measures to secure vulnerable areas. She urged stronger maintenance of hydraulic networks and protection of strategic infrastructure. At the same time, UPI Emilia‑Romagna and ANCI Emilia‑Romagna asked the regional and national governments for financial and logistical support, thanking fire services, police, volunteers and public‑utility operators for their response and emphasizing the need for a precise accounting of damages to guide recovery actions.
