Emilia‑Romagna launches pilot early school return for over 8,000 primary pupils

The Emilia‑Romagna region began a pilot programme on 31 August that lets more than 8,000 primary‑school children attend school two weeks before the official start of the academic year. The initiative, called “La scuola che riparte”, will run in 42 municipalities across the region, offering only recreational and creative activities – such as art workshops, sports, music and social games – while teachers and support staff are exempt from teaching duties. Local authorities and third‑sector organisations will organise the sessions.

In the Imola area, 445 pupils were accepted to take part in the pilot after a review of 476 applications. The children will attend activities at six comprehensive schools from 31 August to 11 September, Monday‑Friday, 8:30 am‑12:30 pm. The programme includes sports, creative labs, theatre, music, dance, scientific and environmental projects, cultural experiences and digital‑literacy initiatives.
