British Columbia municipal elections see candidate confirmations and platform debates
Various municipal election updates are emerging across British Columbia. In the Cowichan Valley Regional District, candidates have been confirmed for the October 17 elections. The board consists of 16 members, including nine electoral area directors and municipal directors. Two electoral area directors, Ian Morrison for Area F and Stephanie Harper for Area I, have been acclaimed.
In Surrey, mayoral candidates are presenting distinct infrastructure platforms. Doug McCallum of the Safe Surrey Coalition has pledged to build a new general hospital in Newton, seeking funding from provincial and federal governments. Conversely, Mike Starchuk of the Imagine Surrey slate is campaigning for the implementation of a commuter rail system running from Scott Road through Newton and Cloverdale.
In the Capital Regional District, several positions have been decided by acclamation for the October 17 election. Al Wickenheim will serve as the Juan de Fuca director, while Roy McIntyre, Ron Ramsay, and Vernon McConnell have been acclaimed to the Land Use Committee. Other acclaimed positions include the Southern Gulf Islands Electoral Area Director and various trustees for Mayne and Saturna islands.
