Emma Coronel concludes U.S. supervised release and sues Penguin Random House
Emma Coronel Aispuro, the former wife of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, has announced the early conclusion of her supervised release in the United States. During a live broadcast, Coronel stated that a federal judge decided to end her probation one year ahead of the original 2027 schedule following an investigation into her conduct, which reportedly showed she had complied with all requirements.
Separately, Coronel has filed a lawsuit against the publisher Penguin Random House through the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI). The legal action concerns the unauthorized use of her photograph on the cover of the book “Emma y las otras señoras del narco” by journalist Anabel Hernández.
Her attorney, Hugo Torres, clarified that the lawsuit does not challenge the book's content or claims regarding her life, but rather focuses on the exploitation of her image for marketing purposes. The claim alleges that a photograph originally posted by Coronel on her Instagram profile was used on the cover and modified with visual effects without her permission.
