Emmanuel Macron awards Legion d'honneur to UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer

French President Emmanuel Macron presented the Grand Officer of the Legion d'honneur to British Prime Minister Keir Starmer in Paris during a summit of the "Coalition of Volunteers" that supports Ukraine. The ceremony took place as Starmer attended the summit, which gathered 37 countries around President Volodymyr Zelensky to reaffirm diplomatic and military assistance for Kyiv and increase pressure on Russia.

The coalition, first convened in London in March 2025, discussed preparing security guarantees for Ukraine and training a multinational force in neighboring states in the coming months. Starmer, who announced his resignation on 22 June, will be succeeded by Andy Burnham on 20 July. The award highlights the close Franco‑British cooperation on Ukraine and other international issues, including joint efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
