In Brazil, endometriosis affects an estimated 5% to 15% of women of reproductive age. Despite its prevalence, the time between the onset of symptoms and a confirmed diagnosis averages seven years. This delay is often attributed to the normalization of menstrual cramps and difficulties in accessing specialized examinations.

Endometriosis is a chronic inflammatory gynecological condition where tissue similar to the uterine lining grows in other areas of the body, such as the ovaries, fallopian tubes, or intestines. While the exact causes are unknown, hypotheses include retrograde menstruation, genetic factors, and hormonal or immunological influences. Medical experts advise that intense or progressive pain that interferes with daily activities should not be dismissed.
