MotoGP prepares for 2027 technical overhaul and engine changes

MotoGP is preparing for a major regulatory overhaul in 2027, which includes the introduction of 850cc engines, reduced aerodynamic appendages, and a transition from Michelin to Pirelli as the official tyre supplier. Riders and team officials have shared early impressions of the changes. Test riders suggest the 850cc bikes may be more manageable and less physically demanding than current 1000cc models, allowing for softer tyre compounds and more natural bike movement.

Enea Bastianini, currently with Tech3 KTM and moving to Trackhouse Aprilia for 2027, has expressed concerns regarding testing opportunities. He is advocating for riders who have not yet tested the new machinery to be allowed to participate in the January Sepang shakedown, arguing that a single day of testing after the Valencia Grand Prix is insufficient to master the new tyres and bike characteristics.

In related paddock news, Bastianini also reflected on his past relationship with Ducati, noting a loss of confidence from the manufacturer following his injuries in 2023. Meanwhile, in the WorldSBK paddock, Iker Lecuona commented on the departure of Nicolo Bulega to MotoGP, stating he would have preferred to continue racing against his primary rival.
