Enel expands photovoltaic capacity in Montalto di Castro

Enel has announced the full operational capacity of its expanded photovoltaic park in Montalto di Castro, located within the Alessandro Volta power plant in the Lazio region. The installation features 23,764 bifacial panels mounted on solar trackers, providing a total capacity of 9 MWp. The facility is expected to produce approximately 15 GWh of renewable energy annually, enough to meet the needs of about 3,000 families.

The project incorporates an agrivoltaic model, integrating energy production with environmental conservation. This includes the cultivation of lavender to support local bee and bumblebee populations, alongside the planting of native Mediterranean flora. This initiative aligns with Enel’s strategic goal to achieve net-zero emissions by 2040.

In response to these developments, the 'No Fotovoltaico Selvaggio' committee has called for greater transparency and public debate regarding the region's energy future. The group is seeking clarity on the balance between nuclear, photovoltaic, and agrivoltaic energy sources, as well as the specific economic and environmental impacts on the local territory.
