Italy solar capacity expansion

In late July 2026 Italy’s renewable‑energy sector launched several complementary initiatives.

Dolomiti Energia completed the purchase of a 20 MWp photovoltaic plant in Montecchio Emilia, raising its authorized solar capacity to more than 29 MW and moving toward a 60 MW target for 2030. The utility also backed a community solar effort in Valbrona, Lombardy, where a partnership with Swedish firm Svea Solar will add rooftop PV installations to support local energy costs and economic resilience.

Two days later, Enel, together with blockchain company Conio, introduced the “ebitts” utility token, letting households buy digital shares of output from an Enel PV park in Viterbo and a wind farm in Potenza. Token owners receive bill savings without owning physical assets. Concurrently, the Società Elettrica di Favignana began building a 994 kW agrivoltaic system on an olive grove in Cala Grande, integrating bifacial solar panels with battery storage and aiming to cut emissions by roughly 20 % as part of the island’s zero‑emissions programme.

Together, these actions illustrate a multi‑pronged push in Italy to expand solar generation through utility acquisitions, community projects, blockchain‑enabled consumer participation, and hybrid agrivoltaic installations.
