Aneel to vote on Enel SP concession and proposes Proinfa payment cuts

The National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) has scheduled a public meeting for October 6 to debate the potential termination of Enel Distribuição São Paulo’s concession. This follows a long procedural process regarding the company’s operational response to severe weather events and power outages. Enel has maintained that it has fulfilled all contractual obligations and has unsuccessfully appealed requests for independent technical expertise to review the case.

In a separate matter, Aneel’s technical area has proposed suspending R$ 804 million in payments from distributors to the Program for Incentives for Alternative Electric Energy Sources (Proinfa) for 2026. The proposal suggests that distributors have already exceeded their required quotas for the program, leaving a surplus in the Proinfa account due to a projected reduction in annual costs.

Additionally, in Sinop, Mato Grosso, local authorities met with Energisa to demand improvements in electricity supply. The municipality reported frequent oscillations and interruptions affecting residents and businesses. Energisa attributed some issues to weather-related damage and limitations in the basic transmission network serving northern Mato Grosso.
