Energocom warns of fraudulent gas inspector phone scams
Energocom has issued a warning regarding fraudulent attempts to deceive natural gas consumers in Moldova. Unknown individuals are contacting citizens by phone, posing as company employees to request meter readings.
The scammers aim to obtain sensitive personal and financial information, including identity card details, bank data, and confirmation codes. Energocom clarified that it does not employ staff to perform home meter readings via telephone and never requests confidential data through such means.
The company noted that the responsibility for collecting and managing meter readings lies with distribution system operators, such as Chișinău-Gaz, Bălți-Gaz, and Ialoveni-Gaz. Consumers are advised to verify the identity of any service personnel by requesting official identification and are urged to report suspicious activity to the police via 112.
