Energy infrastructure projects announced in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Major energy and infrastructure developments are underway in Bosnia and Herzegovina. A proposed €530 million data center near Mostar is projected to have a capacity of 100 megawatts. The project has raised questions regarding its connection to the electrical grid and the potential impact of its cooling requirements on local water resources, specifically the Neretva river.

In a separate energy initiative, the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina has approved a €65 million loan from KfW for the construction of the ‘Poklečani’ wind farm. The project, to be implemented by Elektroprivreda HZHB, involves installing 20 wind turbines with a total capacity of 132 MW. This development is expected to increase annual electricity production by approximately 20% and reduce dependence on hydrological conditions.

Additionally, a €38 million loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development has been proposed for the reconstruction of the medium and low voltage power grid in the Elektrokrajina region, covering a large area in Republika Srpska.
