Energy markets in Romania and Moldova face price shifts and new regulatory tools

The energy markets in Romania and Moldova are undergoing significant shifts. In Romania, CE Oltenia has successfully sold its entire electricity volume for 2027, with prices ranging between 752 and 762 lei/MWh. Meanwhile, experts warn of rising electricity costs this autumn, with potential increases of approximately 15 lei per 100 kWh due to drought, high import costs, and previous market losses.

Romania continues to face high electricity spot prices compared to other EU nations, driven by interconnection deficits and seasonal demand. To assist consumers, the National Energy Regulatory Authority (ANRE) is developing a unified information system (SI ICOF) to allow for the comparison of electricity and natural gas offers from various providers.

In Moldova, Energocom reported delivering approximately 99.70 thousand MWh of natural gas in August at an acquisition price of 57.80 euro/MWh. The company utilizes forward contracts to manage costs and avoid additional expenses related to transport and storage.
