Linke party sues Economy Minister Reiche at Federal Constitutional Court

The Linke party has filed an emergency application with the Federal Constitutional Court against German Economy Minister Katherina Reiche (CDU). The legal action follows an Instagram video posted by the Ministry, in which Reiche warned that the party’s platform regarding expropriation and its stance on antisemitism pose a danger to Germany’s economy and investment climate. The Linke argues that Reiche violated the neutrality requirement for state organs and infringed upon the party’s right to equal political competition.

Separately, the party is demanding a 150-euro energy crisis payment for all citizens to mitigate rising costs. This demand comes as German gas storage levels sit at approximately 58 percent, which is lower than in previous years and below the European average. While the Linke expresses concern over potential shortages, Minister Reiche has stated she does not expect a gas shortage this winter, citing increased LNG capacity and the efforts of state-owned companies Uniper and SEFE to maintain supply.

In regional politics, Schleswig-Holstein’s Minister President Daniel Günther has criticized planned reforms to the Renewable Energy Act (EEG), warning they could harm the country’s energy transition.
