Eurozone inflation rises to 3.3% amid surging energy costs
Inflationary pressures are rising across Europe, driven largely by energy costs. In the eurozone, the annual inflation rate climbed to 3.3 percent in August, up from 2.9 percent in July, with energy prices seeing a significant 14.3 percent year-on-year increase. This trend has prompted discussions regarding potential interest rate hikes by the European Central Bank.
In Croatia, inflation accelerated to 4.1 percent in August, fueled by a 17.4 percent surge in energy costs. Meanwhile, in Republika Srpska, diesel prices are expected to rise by 10 to 15 fenninga per liter due to a 20-fenning increase in global diesel prices.
Logistics and transport sectors are also facing rising costs. Maersk has announced a 7 percent increase in intermodal fuel fees for truck transport and will raise container handling charges at the ports of Rijeka and Ploče starting October 1, citing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and rising energy prices.
