Energy transition initiatives advance in Brazil and Portugal

In Brazil, the startup Agrosolar Investimentos Sustentáveis has introduced the ‘Plante Solar – Energia que Transforma’ program to address rising electricity costs for public administration. The model utilizes build-to-suit (BTS) contracts, where families and small entrepreneurs build micro solar plants using special financing. The government then rents this energy, replacing high-cost electricity bills with more predictable solar contracts. This approach aims to decarbonize consumption and stimulate local economies by circulating resources within the community rather than with large energy providers.

In Portugal, the Ministry of Environment and Energy announced the full completion of its targets under the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR). With investments exceeding 1.8 billion euros, the initiative covered 51 goals including energy efficiency, water resilience, bioeconomy, and the decarbonization of public transport. Specific allocations included 267 million euros for hydrogen and renewable gases and 180 million euros for grid flexibility and energy storage. The ministry also noted progress in simplifying renewable energy implementation and studying offshore wind potential.
