Enexis secures €500 million EU investment to upgrade Dutch power grid
Dutch grid operator Enexis has obtained a €500 million financing facility from the European Investment Bank (EIB) to fund its 2026 electricity grid investment programme. The programme will expand, reinforce and renew about 4,600 kilometres of power lines across the provinces of Groningen, Drenthe, Overijssel, North Brabant and Limburg. Work includes roughly 2,800 km of medium‑voltage cables, 1,800 km of low‑voltage cables, new transformer stations and digital solutions for smarter grid management.
The financing is intended to increase capacity for renewable energy integration and to meet growing electricity demand from households, businesses and electric vehicles. EIB Vice‑President Robert de Groot said the loan will boost network resilience, while Enexis CFO Marjanne van Ittersum noted that the energy transition requires unprecedented scale and speed of investment. The loan aligns with the EIB’s climate‑focused priorities.
