Johnson & Johnson's amivantamab trial shows tumor elimination in some patients
An international Phase II trial of the injectable cancer therapy amivantamab, developed by Johnson & Johnson, was presented at the American Society of Clinical Oncology meeting in Chicago. The study enrolled 102 patients with advanced head‑and‑neck cancer across 11 countries. More than one‑third of participants experienced tumor shrinkage, and in 15 cases the tumors disappeared completely. Researchers reported similar responses in a subset of lung‑cancer patients. Amivantamab works by simultaneously blocking the EGFR and MET pathways and by activating the immune system to attack cancer cells. The drug is now being evaluated in about 60 clinical trials for various solid tumours, including lung, colorectal, brain and stomach cancers. Results suggest a potential new treatment option for patients whose disease no longer responds to chemotherapy or immunotherapy.
