ENGIE impersonation phishing scam targets Romanian users
A new phishing campaign is targeting users in Romania, specifically in Dâmbovița county, by impersonating the energy provider ENGIE. Fraudsters are sending fake emails and SMS messages claiming that customers are owed a “rest sold” or a refund amount.
To claim the supposed money, victims are directed to a fraudulent website designed to mimic the official ENGIE site. The scam involves multiple stages: first, asking users to verify contact details such as name, address, and date of birth, and finally requesting sensitive banking information, including IBANs and full card numbers.
Experts advise individuals to avoid clicking on links in unexpected messages and to verify any refund claims directly through the official MyENGIE application or by contacting customer service via official channels.
