Engineers assess earthquake damage in Pereira, Colombia
A group of 13 volunteer engineers from Medellín has traveled to Pereira, Colombia, to evaluate structural damage caused by the earthquake on August 10. The team includes specialists from EAFIT, the Universidad Nacional, and the Universidad de Antioquia.
The engineers will conduct technical inspections, focusing on educational institutions and other buildings, to determine if structures require repairs, usage restrictions, or other safety measures. These technical reports will assist Pereira authorities in decision-making regarding the recovery of affected areas. The mission is a coordinated effort between the Administrative Department of Risk Management of Antioquia (Dagran) and Pereira's risk management entity.
Medellín Mayor Federico Gutiérrez reported that over 90 personnel have been deployed to assist various regions, including Cali, Pereira, and Manizales, with additional teams heading to Quindío.
