Engineers hold 70th National Congress in Trieste to discuss AI and reform

The 70th National Congress of Engineers is currently taking place in Trieste, themed ‘New Frontiers, New Responsibilities’. The event brings together Italian professionals and representatives from engineering orders in Slovenia, Croatia, and Portugal to discuss the evolving landscape of the profession.

Key discussion topics include the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its impact on professional responsibility, the transition toward Society 5.0, and the need for increased specialization in emerging fields such as biometric and safety engineering. Vice Minister of Justice Francesco Paolo Sisto noted that as complexity grows, so does the need for specialized expertise and legislative reform to modernize professional regulations.

International delegates highlighted shared challenges, including the necessity of digital documentation in construction and the issue of low compensation for young engineers, which contributes to brain drain in countries like Portugal. The congress also emphasizes the importance of generational renewal, with specific focus on involving professionals under 35 in the industry's future.
