70th National Congress of Engineers in Italy

Overview

The 70th National Congress of Engineers continues in Trieste under the theme ‘New frontiers, new responsibilities’. The event has expanded its scope to include representatives from engineering orders in Slovenia, Croatia, and Portugal, fostering international dialogue on the evolving profession.

Discussions have centered on the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its implications for professional responsibility, alongside the transition toward ‘Society 5.0’. Participants are also addressing the necessity for increased specialization in emerging fields, such as biometric and safety engineering. Vice Minister of Justice Francesco Paolo Sisto has reiterated that growing complexity requires both specialized expertise and legislative reform to modernize professional regulations.

International delegates have raised shared concerns regarding the industry, specifically the need for digital documentation in construction and the issue of low compensation for young engineers. This latter point was highlighted as a factor contributing to ‘brain drain’ in countries such as Portugal. The congress maintains a strong focus on generational renewal, aiming to involve professionals under the age of 35 in shaping the industry’s future.
