Brydon Carse removed from England squad amid police investigation

England fast bowler Brydon Carse has been removed from the national squad for the second Test against Pakistan following an incident in Derby. Carse was briefly detained by police on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly outside a nightclub while celebrating a Durham victory. While he was subsequently de-arrested after agreeing to leave the area, Derbyshire Police have since launched an investigation into allegations of an assault in the city centre. It remains unclear what role, if any, Carse played in the alleged assault.

The Cricket Regulator has also initiated a separate probe into the matter. England Test captain Joe Root expressed significant frustration regarding the incident, stating he was ‘really hacked off’ that off-field issues continue to overshadow the team’s on-field performances. Root described the situation as a ‘stupid mistake’ and noted that the team must work to regain public trust following a series of alcohol-related controversies involving contracted players over the past year.

Despite being dropped from the England setup, Carse has been named in the Durham side for their upcoming County Championship match. The England and Wales Cricket Board has declined to comment on the ongoing investigations.
