England drought raises water security and agricultural concerns

A severe drought in England is raising concerns regarding water security and agricultural stability. According to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), approximately 71.3 percent of England remained in drought conditions last month.

In south Buckinghamshire, farmers have reported significant losses due to a combination of a dry spring and summer heatwaves. One farm near High Wycombe reported a harvest shortfall of roughly 1,000 tonnes, resulting in an estimated $270,000 revenue loss.

Defra data indicates that rainfall in August reached only 34 percent of expected levels, while reservoir levels were 18.2 percentage points below seasonal norms.
